Alfred Gerdes

A funeral service for Alfred Gerdes, 84 of Milford will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2018, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Center in Milford. Alfred Arthur Gerdes, the son of Herman and Bertha (Graf) Gerdes, was born June 25, 1934 in Worthington, Minnesota. On November 21, 1955, Al married Marlene Pick in St. Kilian, Minnesota. The family moved to Milford in 1964. Al worked as a custodian and most recently worked at Tweeters. He enjoyed playing pool, golf and building lawn benches and bridges. Al passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at his home in Milford at eighty-four years of age. He is survived by his wife, Marlene of Milford; son, Allen Gerdes and his wife, Cathy of Milford; son, Larry Gerdes and his wife, Paula of Spirit Lake; daughter, Cindy Schultz and her husband, Mark of Lake City, Florida; daughter, Mary Smith and her husband, Joe of Branford, Florida; daughter, Ruth Petrich and her husband, Kevin of Graettinger, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Ruth Gerdes of Gardner, Kansas; son-in-law, Charles Huisenga of Okoboji, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; friend, Paul Wimmer of Hartley. Al was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Stanly; brother, Arnold Gerdes; daughters, Donna Hansen; daughter, Jodien Huisenga; son, Raymond Gerdes; grandson, Zachary Gerdes.
