Alice Gamble

Services for Mrs. Alice Gamble, 98 of Spirit Lake will be Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Memory Gardens. A visitation will take place Friday, March 20, 2015 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake after 3:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 Delaware Mason City, Ia or Hospice of North Iowa 232 Second Street SE Mason City, Ia Alice Veva Gamble was born February 10, 1917 in Macy City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Maria (Hemmig) Vetter. Alice attended Excelsior Consolidated School, graduating in 1936. She was united in marriage to Joseph Reid Gamble on August 24, 1946 in The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Spirit Lake, where they raised their family. Alice was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Additionally, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Cemetery Society. Alice worked for twenty years as a cook at Spirit Lake High School. She loved being a mom, and cherished time spent with family and friends. Alice passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at a care facility in Mason City, Iowa at ninety-eight years of age. She is survived by her children, Raymond Gamble, Robert Gamble (Cathy), Marvin Gamble (Marcia), Dale Gamble (Marcy) and Janet Duff (Francis); many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Stella Sass; sister-in-law, Gwen Vetter; several nieces and nephews and other family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, brother Leslie, twin brother, Alvin and her eldest son, Dennis.
