Alice Hoffman

Alice Hoffman, age 70, of Cherokee, formerly of Spirit Lake, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Careage Hills in Cherokee. Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM on Saturday, February 15, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. A remembrance service will be held at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa at humanesocietyofnwia.com.

Alice Mae (Johnson) Hoffman was born on September 27, 1954, to Newman Johnson and Doris (Caldwell) Johnson in South Dakota. Alice was the youngest of six children. Being the baby of the family, she was called Sis or Sissy even as an adult by her loving family.

 In her teen years, Alice discovered a love of running. She would tell the story of how she would run up and down the long driveway of the acreage they lived on near Peterson, Iowa for training and fun. She was an outstanding runner. In high school, she was a part of a relay team in Peterson-Linn Grove that held a school record for more than 20 years. 

 In her time on earth, Alice enjoyed reading romance novels, writing letters, and spending time with family. Alice never met an animal that she didn't fall in love with immediately. In her later years, she could often be found volunteering at the local animal shelter and cuddling with either a kitty or a small dog. But Alice’s true passion were her sons Travis and Heath. She was always encouraging them both and will be loved and missed by them both.

 Left to mourn her passing are Heath and Connie Richter, Travis Richter and his wife Molly Dahlberg, her grandchildren, Makenna, Jaxon, Zackary, and Xavier, her only remaining sister, Rena Radke, and numerous other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Newman and Doris Johnson, her older brother, Delroy Johnson, her brother-in-law, Clyde Radke and her infant son, Brandon Richter.
