Annette Neighbor

August 2, 1923 — February 24, 2011

Annette was born August 2, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois and adopted at three months by Anna T. Dorgan of Lincoln, Nebraska. She lived in Lincoln, spending her summers on Sunset Beach, West Lake Okoboji and winters in Hollywood, California. She graduated from Hollywood (CA) High School and from business school in Lincoln. Annette was united in marriage to Larry Jensen, of Graettinger, Iowa, in 1946 in Lincoln. They had three children; Larry, Jim and Marilyn. Together, Annette and Larry owned and operated Jensen's Our Own Hardware Store in Milford. After the sale of the hardware store, she and Larry owned and operated Jensen's Sunset Beach Cottages on West Lake Okoboji for over fifty years. Annette spent her winters with her family in Lauderdale By The Sea, Florida, for more than forty years. Annette was widowed in 1969. She married Jack G. Neighbor in 1973 and they enjoyed twenty-two years together. Jack died in 1995. Annette was gracious to everyone. She cherished her family and friends. She enjoyed having lunch with the Wednesday 'Lunch Bunch.' Attending the Okoboji Summer Theater was a special pleasure. She was an enthusiastic member of the Milford Potluck Supper Group for more than forty years. In the evenings, she loved to meet with her long-time friends from the cottages to mark the end of another day and to enjoy the sunset together. Annette was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church of Spirit Lake, Chapter BE, P.E.O. and the Okoboji Yacht Club. She is survived by her son, Larry Jensen of Sioux City, and his sons, Lawrence of Sioux City and Steven of Arnolds Park; son, Jim Jensen and his wife, Diana, of Arnolds Park and their children, Kate, of St. Louis, Missouri, Michael, of Okoboji and Kate's son, T.J. Alexander, also of St. Louis; and daughter, Marilyn Zahradnik, her husband Duane, and their daughter, Amy, all of West Okoboji. She was preceded in death by her mother, her husbands and a sister-in-law, Pearle Jensen Osher and a brother-in-law, Dr. J.B. Osher.
