Archie Wartnaby, 67, of Terril passed away December 15, 2012 at his home in Terril, Iowa.
Archie L. Wartnaby was born Archie Leroy Wartnaby on September 21, 1945 to Carroll Lester Wartnaby and Beatrice (Polly) Lamb Wartnaby. In his younger years he grew up at Sheffield, Iowa and later lived in Rockford, Iowa and Nora Springs, Iowa. Archie graduated from the Nora Springs-Rock Falls High School.
In Sept. 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army. His training, basic training, NCO school and Engineer training was taken at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. After training, Archie served in combat on the DMZ in Korea. He received the KDSM metal for this campaign. He was honorably discharged in June 1971 as a Sergeant E-5. Archie was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and All State Commander two years in a row in Fort Dodge, Iowa and a life member of The American Legion Post 1 in Spencer, Iowa.
Archie worked several jobs in his life including farming, gas station owner, mechanic and as a Culligan man. As a Culligan man he suffered a disabling back injury. He went to DMACC and at the age of 50 graduated with honors as a paralegal. On Nov. 17th 1968, Archie married Charlene LaRae Moore of Terril. They have two sons, James Roy and Gregory John along with seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Archie enjoyed working with youth. At church he has taught Sunday School, worked with youth groups and his favorite Vacation Bible School. He has also spent a lot of time working for youth as a member of the Boys Scouts of America. He served as a Cub Leader and Troop Leader. For the Prairie Gold District he was Round Table Commissioner for training, Scouting for Food, worked on scout camporees and Unit Comm.. He also did Camp Inspection for Mid-America Counsel. Presently he was a Unit Comm. and Training Comm. for the district.
Archie is survived by two sisters, Marlys Ites of Iowa Falls, IA and Donna Kabage of Seymore, MO; one brother, John Wartnaby of Hollywood, MD. Archie is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Patty at age 2 and Terryann; grandparents, Archie Wartnaby, Tilly Wartnaby and Frank and Helen Lamb.
