Ardith Cohrs

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 10:30am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 29th after 3:00pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Ardith Arlene Cohrs was born October 22, 1931 to Harvey LaLone and Alice Stuhr LaLone at Dunlap, Iowa. She moved with her family to Spirit Lake in 1945 and graduated with her class of 1949 at Spirit Lake High School. After graduation, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On September 7, 1952, Ardith married classmate, Bernard Cohrs, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake where she was a member. They spent their first year of married life at Fontainebleau, France where her husband was stationed in the Army and where their first child Gary was born. Upon returning in 1954, they farmed in the Spirit Lake area and later owned Cohrs Construction Co. She worked for dentist, Dr. O.B. Nielsen for ten years and also for ten years in the office at Crescent Beach Resort. Ardith loved to do crafts, gardening, cooking and sewing. Ardith passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At the age of eighty-two, Ardith was able to help provide life for another person through organ donation. She is survived by her husband, Bernard; son, Gary Cohrs and his wife, Cathy, of Spirit Lake; daughter, Kathleen Cohrs-Olding of Lake Park, Iowa; one grandson, Joseph Olding and one granddaughter, Courtney Cohrs. She is also survived by one sister, Norma (LaLone) Clark and her husband, Wayne, of Lakefield, Minnesota and one brother, John LaLone and his wife, Vivian, of Lake Park, Iowa; three nieces, two nephews and their families and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Jay Bernard Cohrs, in 1964.
