Funeral services for Audrey Wiersma, 76, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Newkirk, will be held at 11 am, Thursday, April 12, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Newkirk Reformed Church Cemetery in Newkirk, Iowa.
Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, with the family present from 5 - 7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Audrey Kay Wiersma, the daughter of Alvina (Beimers) and Wein Vander Zwaag, was born July 11, 1941 in Orange City, Iowa. Audrey graduated from Newkirk High School in 1959.
On May 16, 1961, Audrey was united in marriage to Delbert Wiersma in Middleburg, Iowa The family lived in Newkirk where Delbert farmed and Audrey was a devoted farmwife. They were members of the Newkirk Reformed Church until they moved to Spirit Lake in 2003, where they became members of the Good News Community Church and later First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.
Audrey enjoyed fishing, vacations to northern Minnesota, birds, flowers and attending her grandkid's events and activities. She was active in church and belonged to Golden Hour and taught Sunday school. She was a cook at the area hospital for several years and worked at a nursing home and motel. Audrey was also a breast cancer survivor.
Audrey passed away April 7, 2018 at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake at seventy-six years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert Wiersma of Spirit Lake; daughter, Denice (Scott) De Goei; son, LaRoy (Dawn) Wiersma; son, John (Kim) Wiersma; daughter, Andrea (Doug) Grossmann; grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Waldschmitt, Rachel (Nick) Tanner, Allen De Goei, Brooke, Colton and Caden Wiersma; Noah, Jonah, Jeremiah and Hannah Wiersma, Aubree Grossmann; great-grandchildren, Tayten and Mauer Tanner and Ellie Kay Waldschmitt.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws and three siblings.
