Funeral services for August "Augy" Scheppmann, 88, of Spirit Lake, will be held at 11 am, Saturday, July 1, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. Interment will be at Lakefield Cemetery in Lakefield, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 5 pm, Friday, June 30, 2017, with the family present from 5-7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church.
August Raymond Scheppmann, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2017. August was born May 6, 1929 to August F. and Hilda Marie (Sjuts) Scheppmann in Heron Lake, Minnesota. Augy went to the Okabena School and graduated in 1947. He enjoyed sports and has told many stories about the football team and medaling at the state track meet in the discus throw. He went to Worthington Jr. College and Hamlin University before joining the Air Force.
On August 6, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Ardyce Janssen. They were blessed with four children, Rhonda, Rachelle, Reed and Randy. They made their home in Okabena, Minnesota and later moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Augy and his father started A.F. Scheppmann & Son Const. Co., building roads and later burying telephone cable. He was responsible for numerous commercial and residential developments in SW Minnesota and NW Iowa. His life has made a positive impact on many people through his involvement in business, church and leadership in the community. Augy has been active in his church all his life, most recently with First Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ardyce (Janssen) Scheppmann; his children, Rhonda Scheppmann, Rachelle (John) Traen, Reed (Peggy) Scheppmann and Randy (Pat) Scheppmann; twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August F. and Hilda Marie Scheppmann and one sister, Irene Holmquist.
