Bertle M. Anderson was born June 10, 1922 in Ringsted, Iowa to Bert and Marie (Stennes) Anderson. When Bertle was five, the family moved to a farm near Halfa, Iowa where he attended and graduated from Halfa Consolidated School.
Bertle joined the United States Navy in 1944. Upon completion of diesel machines, he was assigned duty aboard the destroyer escort, U.S.S. Burrows where he saw duty in both the Atlantic and the Pacific theaters of operations.
On August 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Mildred Johnson. Following their marriage the couple resided in Armstrong where Bertle managed a grocery store. In 1956, Bertle was employed by Iowa Electric Light Power Co. Bertle retired in 1985, working for I.E.P for twenty-eight years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and golf but especially enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren.
Bertle passed away on April 23, 2008 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-five years of age.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; two sons, Ray and his wife Barbara of Rogers, Minnesota, Dwayne and his wife Vicki of New Prague, Minnesota; granddaughters, Michelle Nemec and her husband, Bryan of Rogers, Minnesota, Melisa of Rogers, Minnesota, Sydney of New Prague, Minnesota; great-granddaughter, Lauren Olivia Nemec of Rogers, Minnesota; sister, Lillian Hansen of Graettinger, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.
Bertle was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Marie Anderson; one sister, Mildred Booth; three brothers, Melvin, Harry and Elmer Anderson.
