Betty Rasmussen

A funeral service for Betty Rasmussen, age 84, of Spirit Lake, will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 1:30pm at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at South Walnut Cemetery in Graettinger, Iowa. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Betty Lou Rasmussen, the daughter of Carl and Helena (Siebrasse) Reuter, was born August 19, 1931 in Humboldt, South Dakota. After graduating from high school in Humboldt, she continued her education and received her teacher's certificate. On August 2, 1955, Betty was united in marriage to LeRoy Arthur Rasmussen. Betty taught in Spencer, Iowa and Graettinger, Iowa before Betty and LeRoy moved to Spirit Lake in 1974. Betty helped LeRoy with farming until their retirement in 1987 and the couple retired to their home on Big Spirit Lake. Betty was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger, Iowa. Betty and LeRoy enjoyed traveling. They went on several trips in their motor home and also enjoyed many cruises. In their later years, they spent their winters in Arizona as well. Betty's greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons and making sure they were doing their homework. Betty passed away December 27, 2015 at her home in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-four years of age. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, LeRoy Rasmussen; son, Clark Rasmussen and his wife, Leslie; two grandsons, Eric Rasmussen and Kyle Rasmussen; two sisters, Darlene Slocum and Nancy Reuter. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Alan Reuter.
