A funeral service for Bev Schumann, age 78, of Milford, will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. Burial will be at Milford Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 15th from 5:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Families in Service and Stephens Ministry.
Bev passed away May 13, 2018 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Beverly Jean Schumann, the daughter of Alvin (Stub) and Wilma Marie Wiese Anderson, was born January 23, 1940 in Milford, Iowa. She was raised in Dickinson County and attended schools at Excelsior, near Lake Park, Milford Community School and was the last graduating class from Okoboji Consolidated School, west of Milford, in 1957.
Bev married Arvin J. Schumann on November 22, 1959 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. Bev worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone in Spencer and transferred to Anaheim, California after marriage. She worked for Bell for eight years full-time and three years part-time. She and Arv moved back from California in 1961. She was a full-time mom until Vicki, the youngest, started school, then worked for Enderson Insurance and Real Estate for eight years, Chuck's Auto Part for twenty-eight years, and part-time at Clary Lake Service for eight years, plus helped on the farm, with both grain and livestock.
Bev was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Milford, starting with Sunday School at age 3, and also taught Sunday School. She was very proud to have served on the Milford Community School Board for ten years and was a charter member of the past JayceeEttes, serving in all offices, and also helped with the horse shows at the Dickinson County Fair.
Bev never knew a stranger and loved her family and friends. She also enjoyed her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She loved working in her garden and flower beds when she lived in the country.
Bev is preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Marie Weaver; father and mother, Alvin Anderson and Wilma Anderson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eldo Schumann and Iva Schumann; brother-in-law, Hal Severson and many dear friends.
Left to cherish her memory are Arv, her husband of fifty-eight years; daughter, Jeannie Ann Stolee of Okoboji, Iowa; granddaughters, Alyssa Jean (Ben) Umscheid of Milford, Iowa and Mikayla Marie Weaver of Brookings, South Dakota; great-grandchildren, Elias Jay Umscheid and Lennon Marie Umscheid; son-in-law, Jay Weaver of Milford, Iowa; brother-in-law and wife, Jerry and Bev Schumann of Okoboji, Iowa; brother, Ray (Colleen) Anderson of Milford, Iowa; sister, Lois Severson of Kansas City, Missouri; along with many nieces, nephews and great friends.
