Beverly Whitmer age 78, died April 8, 2010 at her Tucson home after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was and forever will be a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, employer and friend. Beverly Jean was born December 5, 1931, in Montgomery, Iowa to Edna and Layton Vick. She grew up working in the family business known as Vick's Corner. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1950 and attended Morningside College while awaiting her fiance's return from military service. They were married on September 16, 1951 and started a family. Bev worked at home and in restaurants while her husband and children completed their educations. She was an active community member, involved in scouting and church. The family resided in Iowa, New York and Colorado before transferring to Tucson in 1979. Bev worked at Millie's Pancake Haus for several years before purchasing it from Mildred Novak in 1985. Many customers believed Bev was Millie which always made her laugh. A mainstay of strength in bad times and a source of love and encouragement always, Beverly will stay close to our hearts and be greatly missed every day.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 58 years, Warren; brothers, Layton, Larry and Bill; children, Jean, Lee and Lora; grandchildren, Melissa and Kara and great-granddaughter, Warren Leigh (Wren).
