Robert Francis Hanson passed away peacefully at home, with family and his wife, Judy, by his side on Saturday, February 15, 2020 – he was 86 years old. “Bob” was born October 20, 1933 in Wallingford, IA to Olaf and Thelma (Lamb) Hanson, joining sisters Delores Buckley of Palm Coast, FL, Carolyn Carpenter of Spencer, IA and brother Larry Hanson (deceased). Bob graduated from high school in Round Lake, MN and was married to Alene Shoemaker from 1952 until her passing from illness in 2007. They raised two children, Karen Lee (special friend, John) of Bucerias, Mexico and Ken Hanson (special friend, Kirsten) of Milford, IA. Bob and Alene shared 54 years together. They enjoyed traveling and their passion was having their grandchildren (Nicole, Kecia, Adam, Whitney, Kyle, Jordan and Emilee) at “Camp Grandma.” A hard worker his entire life, Bob labored on the family farm, drove for Wells Blue Bunny and purchased the Mobil service station in Milford – named Bob’s Mobil. At the advice of a local insurance agent, Bob became a fixture in the insurance and real estate business, owning Bob Hanson Realtors for the last 22 years of his 56-year career in the workforce. Bob married Julayne (Judy) Radtke in 2010 – the same year as his retirement. The two families blended adding 5 more children, including: Lori Lewis (special friend, Leroy) of Spirit Lake; Linda Baltzegar (Steve) of New Smyrna, FL; Greg Radtke of St. Peters, MO; Julie Burton (Larry) of Mesa, AZ; and Brian Radtke (special friend, Katrina) of Spirit Lake, IA. When not working, Bob enjoyed serving the community on the Chamber Board, Real Estate Board and Milford City Council. He was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church, serving in the office and on church committees. Bob especially loved the live Lenten Services each year, along with the many friendships developed in the church family. Bob and Judy were inseparable during their 10-year marriage. They enjoyed traveling the world, visiting family around the US and spending time with a large circle of local friends and family. Over the years Bob enjoyed golfing, annual fishing or hunting trips and boating in the Iowa Great Lakes. He loved hosting his many friends and his 7 grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren! Bob never knew a harsh word, always forgave and was well-known for his honorable business dealings. He had a kind way and his dry sense of humor always entertained and kept people guessing. According to Bob, there is only one problem in the world – greed. Amen to that.
