Bonnie Forey

A funeral service for Bonnie Forey, age 84, of Spirit Lake, will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin one hour prior the service at the church. Bonnie Forey, the daughter of William and Winifred Reeves, was born December 24, 1933 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. After graduating from Spirit Lake High School, she attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota for one semester before receiving her teaching certificate at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She later received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was an elementary and middle school teacher in Swea City, Spirit Lake, and Graettinger before her retirement. Bonnie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. She loved music, reading, photography and nature, but she was most creative when it came to her writing, having won her last award for poetry in 2017 at the age of 83. Bonnie passed away January 3, 2018 at her home in Spirit Lake at eighty-four years of age. She is survived by her three children, Bill Forey, Kathleen Carpenter and her fiancé, Paul Whitfield and Bob Forey and his wife, Naomi; five grandchildren, Ben Carpenter, Jessica Burges, Marin Forey, Ashley Franklin and Matt Franklin; four great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
