Brad Riley

April 6, 1954 — March 2, 2012

Bradley Dean Riley was born April 6, 1954, the son of James W. and Mabel (Peterson) Riley. He resided in Spirit Lake and was formerly from Deloit, Iowa. Brad attended school in Denison, Iowa and then served his country in the United States Army for eight years during the Vietnam Era. He loved to cook, play golf and watch football. In his too short life, Brad collected many loyal and good friends, because he was a loyal and good friend. He mastered the art of grilling and smoking meats that he delighted in sharing. He never arrived empty-handed, trying his hand at new and interesting dishes. On the golf course Brad excelled, modestly accepting accolades for excellent shot after excellent shot. Everyone wanted Brad on their team. And, when the music started, Brad's feet could not be stilled. He twirled the ladies on the dance floor from the first note to the last. Brad possessed a quiet demeanor, clear and intelligent mind, kindness of heart and a sense of gallantry that made him a true gentleman. He never asked much from life, but was always there to give. A guardian angel in life, so shall he be forever in our hearts. Brad passed away at his residence in Spirit Lake, Iowa at fifty-seven years of age. Brad is survived by his daughters, Ashley, Josie and Laura; brothers, James and Michael Riley; sister, Ann Schletta; half-brothers and half-sisters, Phyllis Weatherman, Darrell Schletta, Ronald Schletta, Dennis Schletta, Butch Riley and Shirley Riley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alfred; half-brother, Jerry Schletta; and sisters, Alice Mead and Rubie Christenson.
