Brian Marvin Cerny, son of Marvin and Edna (Vopalensky) Cerny, was born December 28, 1943 in Fremont, Nebraska. After receiving his Bachelor's Degree in education, Brian enlisted into the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1968. After moving to Iowa in 1969, he taught in Arnolds Park and Estherville.
On July 9, 1988, Brian was united in marriage to Nancy Horst in Vermillion, South Dakota. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading and was the jack-of-all trades. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Brian had a love for learning, enjoyed talking to others and always wanted to know "what the plan was."
Brian passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at his home in Spirit Lake at sixty-nine years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children, Pamela Cerny, Stacy Cerny (Mark Rosenblum), Amy Meyer (Curt) and Brian D. Cerny (Gina); nine grandchildren, David, Julian, Rose, Faith, Grace, Christopher, Paige, Chaz and Ciera; sister, Madalyn Svendsen-Smith (William); uncle, Leonard Vopalensky; aunt, Mary Ann Petersen; many adoring nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Colorado.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents.
