A funeral service for Charles Rueter, age 82, of Lake Park, will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 10:30am at Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 16 after 4:00pm with the family present from 4:00-6:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Charles Henry Rueter, son of Henry and Ora (Bremer) Rueter was born on a farm northeast of Ocheyedan, Iowa on January 16, 1932. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township. Charles grew up in the Harris rural area going to grade school at Lone Star Country School and Zion Parochial School. After graduating from Harris High School in 1950, he helped his dad on the farm until going into the US Army in 1953. He served two years as a military policeman in Korea. Charles received the Korean Service Metal, the National Defense Service Metal and the United Nations Service Metal. After his discharge in 1955, he returned home to the farm.
Charles married Ardyce Mae Anderson of Lakefield, Minnesota on April 27, 1957. They farmed and made their home in the rural Harris area, until semi-retiring in 1993 and moving to Lake Park, Iowa.
Charles was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park. He also served on the board of the Ocheyedan Co-op Elevator, Osceola County Cattleman Association and was Fairview Township Clerk for many years. He was a member of Harris and Lake Park America Legion and served on the city park board in Lake Park.
Charles enjoyed traveling, fishing, boating, golfing, playing pool with friends and spending time with family especially his children, grandkids and great-grandkids. Charles and Ardyce enjoyed many years of square dancing and wintering in Mesa, Arizona. He also loved the farm and working with his son.
Charles died January 14, 2015 at Hilltop Care Center after a very short stay of two days. He had been diagnosed with AML Leukemia.
He is survived by his wife, Ardyce; two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Lemmons of Las Vegas, Nevada and Lori (Terry) Sheeler of Lake Park; one son, Scott (Tricia) Rueter of Lake Park; five grandchildren, Brandon (Cassy), Brittany (Ken), Greg (Sabrina), Jacie and Jaden; five great-grandkids, Jared, Will, Avery, Blake and Leo; one brother, Loyd (Sharon) of Worthington, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ora Rueter.
