There will be a Celebration of Life Visitation for Charlie Shuck, 65, of West Okoboji on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 11am - 2pm at the Milford Community Building in Milford.
Charlie passed away February 15, 2015 at his home, with his family by his side.
Charles Paul Shuck, son of Paul and Cleo (Taylor) Shuck was born on July 17, 1949 in Sioux City, IA. After moving to the Lakes Area Charlie attended Milford Community Schools, graduating in 1967.
He then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard which took him to various posts and also led him to his future wife, Beverly Burmeister. They met while "Chuck" was stationed in her hometown of Two Rivers, WI and married there on Dec. 5, 1970.
Following his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard in 1972 Charlie returned to West Okoboji, Iowa and obtained the "Okoboji Bait Farm" from his dad. He and Bev renamed the business "Shuck's Bait and Tackle," built a new store on Hwy. 86, and went on to enjoy over twenty-seven years of equipping people for outdoor adventures.
Charlie's family was always important to him and he was thrilled when daughter, Jennifer, and son-in-law, Treven Hesebeck blessed him with granddaughter, Rachel (fishergirl and "Grandpa's soft spot") and grandson, Darin (hunting buddy and partner in crime!).
Charlie's favorite things: hunting, fishing, trapping, talking stocks and investing, watching CNBC, an occasional game of poker, and, most of all, spending time with family and friends (especially WHILE hunting, fishing, trapping…)
Charles was diagnosed with Amyloidosis in 2014 and succumbed to the disease, passing away at his home on Feb. 15, 2015.
Charlie's parting advice: Be with the people you love…and go fishing.
