Clara B. Turner was born November 28, 1919 at Hartford, Arkansas to William and Monte Crabtree Steele.
On February 14, 1939 she was united in marriage to Cecil Turner of Russellville, Arkansas. He was an Assembly of God minister and in the early years they traveled across the south as an evangelist. He then pastored churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma and in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They became administrators of Hallmark House, a nursing facility in Bourbonnais, IL, for sixteen years. After retirement, they remained in Bourbonnais until moving to Spirit Lake in June of 2008.
Clara was known for activities which benefited others: her garden, cooking and handiwork of hand sewn quilts. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Clara died September 12, 2011 at Hilltop Care Center where she had been a resident for over 3 years.
Surviving are her son, Jerry and his wife, Jan, of Spirit Lake; daughter, Carole Hall of Flower Mound, TX; grandchildren, Philip Turner, Lynnette Schultz (Scot), Jody Jenness (Greg) and Tara Rabenberg (William); 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, Cecil, a sister, Penny, 3 brothers, Laverne, Herbert and Carmel, and a son-in-law, Don.
