Craig Hansen

(Ervin) Craig Hansen of Spirit Lake, IA, formerly of Griswold, IA peacefully passed away on Tuesday Dec 3, 2024 at the age of 68 years old. 

Craig was born to Ervin & Bette Hansen of Griswold, Iowa on December 29, 1955. He attended Griswold Community Schools. After graduation in 1974 he attended Central Community College in Fort Dodge, IA. Craig married Gloria Larsen on Aug 10, 1975. Two sons were brought into their family, Brad and Gabe. 

Craig managed the poultry house and farmed with his dad at Hansen Egg Company. Craig and Gloria made the big move to Lewis, Iowa where Craig farmed but always continued to work with his dad. In 1982 he returned to Griswold. While working for Hansen Egg Company he eventually purchased a semi-truck to transport eggs. He found a passion for trucking. He eventually became the owner of Hansen Egg Company. He grew the company and evolved it from an egg business to a trucking company. The company has been in Griswold since 1943 where it continues to operate today. 

Craig was proud of the community and often donated to charitable causes and served on the city council of Griswold. 

Craig and Jane Turgeon were married in Spirit Lake on April 19, 2003. Jane had one daughter, Heidi, who became Craig’s daughter as well. In 2016 Craig was able to realize a life-long dream of making Lake Okoboji his permanent home. Craig and Jane enjoyed life on the lake. He especially enjoyed FAST boats, he also collected old unusual cars through the years. As an avid traveler he has been to every state and multiple countries. He enjoyed sharing stories about his travels. Some of his highlight destinations that he got to check off his “bucket list” were the Himalayas, Antarctica, Cuba, Australia, and Russia. 

His parents, grandparents, an older infant brother (Dickie), two infant great nephews, preceded Craig in death. Survivors include his wife, Jane, his two sons, Brad (Laura) of Griswold, Gabe (Stephanie) and granddaughter Kylie of Hawaii, Daughter Heidi (Josh) of Red Oak, granddaughter Sydney (Brook) and 2 great granddaughters of Seward, Nebraska. Also surviving are sisters, Pat Grizzard of Georgia and Karen (Gary) Foote of Missouri along with several nieces and nephews and their families. 

A celebration of life will be held for Craig in the spring.
