Darlene Godbold

A Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene Godbold, 84, of Spirit Lake, will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Margarets Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Darlene Margaret Godbold, the daughter of Herman and Cecelia (Bruns) Schumacher, was born September 20, 1933 in Crofton, Nebraska. Darlene graduated from Spirit Lake High School. On January 25, 1953, Darlene was united in marriage to Jerry Godbold in Gardnerville, Nevada. They lived in San Diego while Jerry served in the Navy and later lived in Jacksonville, Florida, Miami, Florida and finally in Chicago for a short time before settling in Darlene's hometown of Spirit Lake, in 1965. Darlene worked at the switchboard at Lakes Regional Hospital for many years and then some years at Thousand Baskets. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheted many blankets for grandkids and great-grandkids. Her passion was her flower gardens, inside the house and out. Her pride and joy was her family, she loved being a wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Darlene passed away January 24, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Estherville, Iowa at eighty-four years of age. She is survived by her five children, Lindell Weston (Mike), Debbie Bahr, David Godbold (Racinda), Jason Godbold (Heidii) and Michael Godbold (Seana); eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, LeAnna Nielsen; brother, Don Schumacher (Carol); sister, Karen Blake (Dick) and many nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents; an infant son, Damon; and granddaughter, Haley Hansen.
