Darrel "Red" Pegum

No services are planned for Red Pegum, 82, of Ruthven, formerly of Graettinger.

Darrel Dean Pegum, son of Gabriel and Loretta (Besaw) Pegum, was born January 15, 1943, in Graettinger, Iowa. After receiving his education, Red, as he was known, took a job as a welder at Schaeffer’s Manufacturing in Graettinger. Most of his life, however, he worked as a hired hand for many farmers in the Graettinger area. Red was united in marriage with Barbara Ellen Taylor on July 13, 1966, in Jackson, Minnesota. They spent many happy years together until Barbara’s death. Red passed away April 9, 2025, at Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa.

Survivors include his two sisters Mary (Bill) Libby and Peggy Libby of Streator, IL, brother-in-law Bruce (Marcia) Taylor of Spirit Lake, IA and many nieces and nephews. Red was preceded in death by his parents Gabriel and Loretta, sister Donna (Norman) Nissen, and brother Donald (Susie) Pegum.
