David Berninger, 52, of Spirit Lake, passed away peacefully at his home in Spirit Lake on December 13, 2011. David John Berninger was born July 27, 1959 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to John and Pat Berninger. He graduated from Portage High School in Portage, Michigan in 1977 and received his Bachelor's Degree from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was employed as a Quality Engineer at Polaris Industries in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was a Certified Quality Engineer and taught statistical analysis when time allowed. Dave served in the United States Air Force from 1978 to 1982. Dave loved life and enjoyed every minute he had. His greatest pride and joy was his son, Steven, his Hungarian heritage and the life he shared with Erin. He loved to share stories about all three with anyone he encountered. Dave loved the Chicago Bears, cooking great Hungarian dishes, history, biking, fishing, and camping, movies and spending time with his family and friends. Dave will be greatly missed by Erin, Steven, his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who came in contact with him. His memories and stories will remain in our hearts forever. Dave is survived by his fiancée, Erin Gallagher of Spirit Lake, Iowa; son, Steven J. Berninger, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Parents, John and Pat Berninger of Portage, Michigan; brother, Ken (Cindy)Berninger and their children, Christina, Carrie, Carla and Josh of Ohio; Sister, Sandy (Raymond) Berninger King and their children, Alex and Jonah of Texas. Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Margaret Berninger, and Gazelle and Leslie Kerekes.
