David E. Bordwell

Funeral services for David Bordwell, 84, of Lakefield, Minnesota, will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, November 10, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Jackson, Minnesota. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. David Emery Bordwell, the son of Reno and Ruby (Parsons) Bordwell, was born March 21, 1934 in Minneota Township in Jackson, County, Minnesota. After high school, David worked in partnership with his dad on the farm. On January 20, 1954, David enlisted in the United States Army. Following an honorable discharge on October 20, 1955, David enrolled in the University of Minnesota Ag School for 2 years while continuing to be in the Army Reserve. Upon completion of his schooling, David returned to the family farm. On June 10, 1958, David was united in marriage to Marilyn (Foster) Bordwell in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He lived his entire life in the Lakefield area where they raised their family and farmed. David served on several boards including Cattlemen Association, Pork Producers, Clay County Rural Water Board, Elevator Board and Jackson County Fair Board. He was a 4-H Leader and he volunteered at Shetek Baptist Camp, Slayton, Minnesota. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson where he was involved in various committees, taught Sunday School, was Church Chairman and sang in quartets and choir. David loved to hunt bear, deer and birds and was an avid welder. David enjoyed telling stories or a good joke to invoke laughter. He valued time with family, especially the grandkids. He was very proud of them. David passed away November 2, 2018 at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa at eighty-four years of age. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Marilyn Bordwell; daughters, Renee Bordwell, Ruth (Greg) Tatter and Romona (Mark) Holmberg; grandchildren, Logan (Randi) Tatter, Alexis Tatter, Austin Tatter, Andrew Holmberg, Hannah Holmberg and Sarah Holmberg; two great-grandchildren, Bryher Tatter and Berkley Tatter; several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Reno and Ruby Bordwell; sister, Phyllis (Bordwell) Larson and brother-in-law, Paul Larson.
