Funeral services for Dave Gottsche, 71, of Milford will be 10:30 a.m Saturday, August 20, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. Visitation will begin Friday at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford after 4:00 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Milford Cemetery. David Alfred Gottsche was born June 9, 1945, the son of Gilbert and Dora (Boers) Gottsche. He was raised in rural Milford, attending Okoboji Consolidated School and then graduating from Milford Community High School. David entered the US Army in 1965, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1967. David continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College, receiving his Associate Of Arts degree in 1970. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota. In his earlier years, David worked at Berkleys in Spirit Lake and the Holiday Inn of Okoboji. He then became the Sanitarian for Palo Alto and later served as the Sanitarian and Zoning Administrator for Dickinson County. He was elected to the Board of Supervisors for Dickinson County and also served on the Board of Trustees for Iowa Lakes Community College and for Seasons Mental Health. David was a member of Union Memorial Church in Milford as well as Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. He enjoyed traveling near or far around the countryside, getting to know everyone he met. He also enjoyed raising sheep, woodworking, metal scrapping and model trains. David was a member of the Gloaming Lodge, Iowa Great Lakes Shriners and the American Legion. David passed away Monday, August 15, 2016, at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake at seventy-one years of age. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughters, Emily, Jennifer and fiancé, Kevin Pernick; grandchildren, David, Gabriel, Kiaya and Elijah; aunt, Lois Adams; his pet dog, Lady; other family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Mike as well as several aunts and uncles.
