A memorial service for Debra Simpson, 66, of Milford will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Milford Cemetery.
Debra Kay Simpson, the daughter of Donald and Mildred (Spoo) Simpson, was born June 17, 1955 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She graduated in 1974 from Arnolds Park Consolidated School. She lived on the family farm until 1982 and moved into town when the farm house was moved to Milford.
After high school, Deb worked at Berkley's, Village East, as a sewer at Stylecraft for several years and later as the "laundry lady" at the Milford Nursing Home for sixteen years. She then worked in the kitchen at Caseys of Okoboji until her health declined forcing her to retire in May, 2019.
Deb enjoyed doing word search puzzles, going for her afternoon drives around town and to McDonalds. Debbie's passion was her family. She loved spending time with them and visiting with family, friends or strangers. She definitely had a gift to gab! She was always willing to lend a hand in whatever way she could and was always first to volunteer to dog-sit. She enjoyed spending time watching her "nephew" and "niece" pups, Benson and Lilly. One of Debbie's greatest joys in life was her great-niece, Maizy. They shared a very special bond and she looked forward to weekends when they could spend time together playing and reading books.
Deb also enjoyed baking and supplying her nieces and nephews with peanut butter cookies and scotcheroos. She was an avid listener to KICD and was always in the know of all the local happenings. Debbie took pride in entering relative's birthdays and anniversaries into KICD's birthday and anniversary club for a chance to win a free cake; she was quite lucky!
Deb passed away peacefully at Lakes Regional Healthcare on February 15, 2022 surrounded by family. She will most definitely be missed.
Deb is survived by her brothers, Roger (Sue) of Milford, Iowa and Jim (Joan) of Fargo, North Dakota; sister, Betty (Marv) Spieker of Montgomery, Iowa, Charlene Lighter and Judy (Jerry) Rohwer, all of Milford; sisters-in-law, Louise Simpson of Spencer and Julie (Dick) Welle of Milford; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gary, Dennis and David (Burt); sister, Connie Karl; brothers-in-law, Jay Lighter and Darrell Karl and nephew, Brad Simpson.
