A funeral service for Dee Brooks, 93, of Arnolds Park, will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 21st from 5:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.
Doloris "Dee" Theresa Brooks, the daughter of Joseph Urek and Frances Nepodal, was born July 10, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska. After graduating from Benson High School in Omaha, she continued her education at the School of Nursing at Creighton University.
On June 17, 1961, Dee was united in marriage to John Melford Brooks in Omaha. Dee worked as a pediatric nurse, took care of the their home and later was the co-owner of Brooks Beach Resort in Okoboji. Dee also ran a small gift shop at the beach that sold handmade crafts and candy called the Lolli Shoppe. It was in the old office building right off Highway 71. She loved the independence and she was a very strong and compassionate person who deeply loved her husband and her family. She held everything together right up to the end. After retirement Dee and Bud moved to their home on the golf course in Arnolds Park.
Dee enjoyed flowers, jigsaw puzzles, reading and loved volunteering at the library. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rosary Alter and Arpoki.
Dee passed away September 17, 2022 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa at ninety-three years of age.
She is survived by her son, Robert J. (Brenda) Brooks; daughter, Mary Brooks Bagwell; grandson, Benjamin Brooks and granddaughter, Amanda Brooks.
Dee was preceded in death by her husband, John Brooks and her parents, Joseph and Frances Urek.
