Dewane "Bud" Mesner was born May 12, 1933, the son of Erwin and Frieda (Tesch) Mesner in Paullina, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Germantown, Iowa, attending St. John's Lutheran School. He was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church on May 25, 1947.
Bud was united in marriage to Marjorie Ebel on January 14, 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. The couple were blessed with four sons, Randall, Richard, Russell and Robert.
He worked for Miller Grocery in Germantown until 1964. The family moved to Lake Park, where Bud worked for Ahrenstorff Transfer until 1976, after which he went into business as P & M Transfer. He formed a partnership with his son, Russell, as Northwest Transfer.
Bud was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park, Iowa, where he served as Treasurer and Trustee. Upon retirement, he enjoyed fishing, taking care of his horses and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bud passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at seventy-four years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons, Richard Mesner and his wife Deborah, Russell Mesner and his wife Jean and Robert Mesner and his wife Dawn; and daughter-in-law, Stephanie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Darlene Sickelka and Geraldine Clausson; several other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Randall, and a brother, Darwin.
