Richard Eugene Alexander was born July 6, 1925 in Okoboji, Iowa, the son of Jasper and Vera (Wilson) Alexander. He graduated from Arnolds Park High. Dick served as a Gunner's Mate upon the USS Maryland in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946.
On March 12, 1949, Dick was united in marriage to Betty Colleen Eckman in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple lived in Arnolds Park Iowa before moving to Milford, Iowa in 1960. Dick and Betty operated Alexander Blacktop Company, a construction company, west of Milford, which was sold in 1988. They then began H.T.C., Inc., a manufacturing company. They retired in 1990.
Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the American Legion.
Dick passed away January 10, 2012 at Spencer Municipal in Spencer, Iowa at eighty-six years of age.
He is survived by his five children, Bill (Sandy) Alexander, Debbie (Mike) Morton, Nancy Alexander, Tim Alexander and Valerie (Mitch) Watters; twelve grandchildren, John Alexander, Kristina (Drew) Kuyper, Brian (Jennifer) Alexander, Jennifer Carroll, Angela (Bill) Leonard, Stefanie (J) Chapman, Marci (Tim) Trei, Amber Mortenson, Tiffany Alexander, Sarah Alexander, Alex Watters, Breanna Watters; fifteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one great granddaughter, Brandee Alexander, one sister and one brother-in-law.
