Donald Duane "Ears" Albert was born May 12, 1949 in Spirit Lake, Iowa to Earl and Lucille (Pohlman) Albert. Donald was raised and educated in Milford, Iowa.
As a child Donald enjoyed going to his grandparent's home in Hartley, on Sundays. He spoke fondly of memories he had of his brother Bob and childhood friends playing ball, riding bikes to the beach to swim, and collecting bottles for candy money. In middle school Donald enjoyed working as a "grease monkey" at Tiny's Service Station, on the corner from where he grew up.
Donald was on the MHS football squad in 1964 with his older brother Bob "Moose" Albert. Every Saturday night during high school you could always find him and his buddies at the Roof Garden dances or hanging out at Andy and Glenn's drive-in afterwards. In 1968 he and his close friends volunteered with the clean up after the tornado that hit Charles City, IA on May 15.
He was married to Jerilyn Jensen for fourteen years and son Douglas was born to this union. During 1970-71 he enjoyed living in Miami, FL with his new son and wife, working on his brother-in-law's dairy farm.
Donald worked most of his life in the construction field and as a welder until he retired in 1999 due to a work related injury.
Donald lived life to the fullest, he had a great love for family, friends, and animals, especially his dog "Buster". He enjoyed riding his Harley with friends and going to Sturgis. He was a passionate Hawkeye fan and never missed a game whether on TV or radio. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, listening to his prized collection of "Rock & Roll" albums and celebrating the good times of the "70's".
Shortly after his retirement he purchased an acreage outside of Dickens, IA, where he and his son lived until his passing. Donald enjoyed the serenity of the outdoors, the beautiful views, all the wildlife, and tending to his land. It was a special time for him living there with his son. Donald's greatest memory was when he and his son traveled to Missouri this past August for the total eclipse.
Donald passed away peacefully Friday, November 24, 2017 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of sixty-eight.
