Donald Hamann

A funeral service for Donald Hamann, age 85, of Lake Park will be held Monday, December 28, 2015 at 10:30am at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 27th from 2:00-4:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park. Donald "Don" Hamann was the son of Louis and Alva (Wiese) Hamann. He was born February 16, 1930 on a farm near Round Lake, Minnesota where he was raised and graduated from high school. Don enlisted into the United States Army in 1951. On September 16, 1951, Don was married to Betty Kamrath in Round Lake, Minneosta. The couple resided in multiple locations during Don's three years in the service until settling in Lake Park in 1954. He began his career with Rowe Implement, which is now Jaycox Implement, until he retired. After retirement, he drove truck for Arco and escorted oversize loads for Heartland Escort Service. Don was a loving husband, father and father-in-law. He loved being around people and enjoyed talking to everyone. Don was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, volunteered for the Lake Park Fire Department for twenty years and was a member of the Sioux Valley American Legion for sixty years. He was also honored as Lake Park Employee of the Year. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming and assisting his wife with a concession stands for twelve years. He also enjoyed wood working, square dancing, camping, gardening and vacationing. Most of all he enjoyed his time with his family as well as his time spent in Arizona. Don passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona where he and Betty spent their winters for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale. He is survived by his wife, Betty Hamann; daughters, Claudette (Daniel) Luitjens and Carolyn (Michael) Rolph; sister, Delores Bond; five nieces, three nephews and several other family members.
