Donald Lyle Monson

A funeral service will be held for Donald Monson of Spirit Lake, Iowa on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. A visitation with family present will take place Tuesday morning beginning at 9:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Donald Lyle Monson, the son of Dorothy Ella (Schuneman) and Lyle Ellsworth Monson, was born January 1, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in 1956. On September 1, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Kay Lorraine (Fox) in Paton, Iowa. The couple made their home in Des Moines, Iowa and Schaumburg, Illinois before moving to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 2004. Don was a retired realtor, an avid handyman and fisherman, and loved to putter around the lakes and the garage. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Don passed away August 1, 2017 in Des Moines, Iowa at seventy-nine years of age. He is survived by his daughter, Lynne (Monson) Andrews and granddaughter, Ariadnae Andrews; cousins, beloved in-laws and numerous other family and friends. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; their son, Scott D. Monson; and his parents, Lyle and Dorothy.
