Doris Ann (Crosser) Macek, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away on October 28, 2023. She was born on September 6, 1933, in Spencer, Iowa, to her loving parents, Omer and Esther (Krager) Crosser.

Doris grew up in Spencer, surrounded by the love of her four brothers and sisters. She also shared a close bond with her aunts, uncles, and cousins, creating countless happy memories from her early years.

In her journey through life, Doris embraced the role of a devoted mother. She dedicated much of her time as a stay-at-home mother, creating a warm, safe, and loving home for her family. Her first marriage to Gerald brought three children into the world, and they shared their lives in Spencer. Although her path took a different direction after her divorce from Gerald, she soon met Ronnie, her second husband. Together, they started a new life in Algona, Iowa, and expanded her family with two more children. Doris and Ronnie enjoyed bowling in leagues, and she also worked at a children's dance studio, showing her commitment to the well-being of her family and community.

After her divorce from Ronnie, Doris relocated to Milford, Iowa, to be closer to her aunts, uncles, and cousins. While in Milford, she worked hard to make a loving home for her children, Rocky and Ronarae. Her employment included cleaning cottages in the lakes area and later working at Walmart as their "demo" lady, engaging with the community and brightening the days of those around her.

It was in Milford that Doris met her third husband, Joe, and together, they enjoyed a lively and vibrant life. Joe's polka band kept them busy, and they shared their love for dance, music, and entertaining people, both locally and during the winter months in the Rio Grande. Doris's passion for life and her ability to share that joy with others shone through her love of comedy, music, costumes, and clogging. She was always ready to make people laugh and could even be known to embarrass her children with her lively spirit.

Doris treasured her time spent attending and participating in the extracurricular activities and events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She treated every day as a special occasion and was known for her impeccable style, always dressing as if she were going on a date. Her love for bright-colored clothes, sequined jackets, and accessorizing with jewelry brought joy to everyone who knew her. And, of course, her signature touch—plenty of lipstick at hand. Doris was a remarkable and very special lady. Her vibrant and colorful personality, love for life, and her ability to brighten the lives of those around her will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dorene Thortsen Nelson (Duane) from Jackson MN, Michael Thortsen from De Soto IA, Robyn Thortsen Spillman from Northfield MN, Rocky Thompson (Angie) from Milford IA, Ronarae Thompson Riemenschneider (Andy) from Fostoria IA; grandchildren: Nicole Hall from Jackson MN, Todd (Brenda) Nelson from Hico TX, Jason Thompson from Algona IA, Eric Thortsen from West Des Moines IA, Kelsey (Brain) Evans from Urbandale IA, Tasha (Damien) Jessen Buecksler from Dundas MN, Jessy (Robert) Jessen Nivala from Hampton MN, Luke Thompson (fiancée Madeline Stover) from Pella IA, Kyle Thompson from Milford IA, Keitra Cabinboy from Fostoria IA, Rianna Cordrey from Fostoria IA, Phoenix Riemenschneider from Fostoria IA, & Alex Riemenschneider from Fostoria IA; thirteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, as well as extended family.
