Dorothy Newbrough

A memorial service for Dorothy Newbrough, age 86, of Lake Park, will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Dorothy Jean Newbrough was born December 13, 1931 in Ayrshire, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Waterman) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Ayrshire, where she graduated high school. Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald "Red" Newbrough on July 26, 1958, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. The couple made their home in Lake Park, Iowa, where they raised their children. Upon retirement, they moved to Richmond, Minnesota for ten years before returning to Lake Park. Dorothy loved the outdoors, fishing, golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, camping and gardening. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at eighty-six years of age. She is survived by her husband, Red of Lake Park, Iowa; children, Roe Mayne "Butch" Griffel and wife Diane, of Des Moines, Iowa and Connie Clark and husband Andy, of Lake Park, Iowa; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Norman Johnson of Gays Mills, Wisconsin, Thomas (Eddie) Johnson of Des Moines, Nancy (Rodger) Peterson of Des Moines, Iowa and Rose Mary Teater of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Roe Mayne Griffel and son, Randy Griffel.
