Doug Carlson

A visitation and celebration of life for Douglas Carlson, 69, of Spirit lake, Iowa will be Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 2:00-4:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at a later date. Doug passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. Douglas Harold Carlson was born March 21, 1944, in Fairmont, Minnesota to Harold and Ella (Redman) Carlson. He graduated from Trimont High School and then from Minnesota State University. After college, Doug continued as the third generation in the family's farm drainage business until his retirement in 2011. Doug married Marsha Saggau on August 24, 1968. They spent many years in Trimont, MN until moving to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 2012 after their retirement. Doug greatly enjoyed fishing, painting and watching the Vikings and Twins. He loved more than anything spending time with his family and beautiful grandchildren who meant the world to him. Anyone that knew him loved him for his most kind heart, gentle soul and great sense of humor. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marsha; son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Kristy Carlson of Jackson, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Scott Reed of Okoboji, Iowa; three grandchildren, Moira Carlson, Lance and Evan Reed; sisters, Carolyn (Jack) Lundgren and Rene (Mike) Armstrong, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters and his beloved boxer, Cooper.
