Duane Von Ehwegen

Funeral services for Duane Von Ehwegen, 80, of Terril, will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 12, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Terril. Visitation will begin at 3 pm, Sunday, October 11, 2015, with the family present from 3-5 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Duane Arlen Von Ehwegen was born August 27, 1935 near Lytton, Iowa, the son of Reinhardt and Bessie Von Ehwegen. He lived in Lytton and Nemaha, Iowa before moving to Terril in 1949, graduating from Terril High School in 1953. Duane was united in marriage to Betty Luehring on June 24, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril. The couple made their home in Terril, where they raised their family. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church as a member of the choir, Sunday School teacher, LYC Sponsor and Lutheran Layman's League. He was also a member of Terril Kiwanis, Terril Commercial Club, Terril Fire Dept., and the Many Voices Choir. Duane was an avid Minnesota Twins and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing, as well as kite flying, star gazing and bird watching. Above all, he cherished time spent with this family and attending his grandchildren's activities. Duane passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Lakes Regional Health Care in Spirit Lake, at eighty years of age. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Terril; sons, Mike Von Ehwegen (Becky) of Polk City, Iowa, Scott Von Ehwegen of Jackson, Minnesota and Rich Von Ehwegen (Jerilyn) of Milford; grandchildren, Adam Von Ehwegen, Beth Henson, Kim Nyborg (David), Nick Von Ehwegen, Corey Polz, Krista Anderson, Amanda Von Ehwegen and Allison Schipper (Scott); great-grandchildren, Elliot Von Ehwegen, Vance Nyborg, Eden Nyborg, Madi Polz and Emma Polz . He is also survived by his brothers, Don Von Ehwegen (Glenda), Gerald Von Ehwegen and Bernie Von Ehwegen (Roxie); several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.F. and Bessie, in-laws, Richard and Edna Luehring, sisters-in-law, Carolyn Von Ehwegen and Florence Luehring and a nephew.
