A memorial service will be held Friday, May 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside will be held at Silver Lake Cemetery on Friday, May 20th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Duane Leonard Richard, age 87, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Lake Park, passed away on May 16, 2016, at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake. Duane was born to George and Alma Richard on January 30, 1929 on a farm in Petersburg, MN. He lived in Sheldon and Estherville and was married to Mavis June Muilenburg in Jackson, MN on November 5, 1951. They lived in the surrounding areas of Spirit Lake. He made his living as a brick layer and his hobbies included gardening, fishing, taking care of his yard, and spending time with his family. He was a hard worker and a great provider. He is survived by his wife, Mavis June Richard, to whom he was married for 64 years; son, Randall Lewis Richard from Umatilla, FL; daughter, Roxann Kay Moriston (Keith) of Spirit Lake, IA; grandchildren, Toni Maria Moriston of Sioux Falls, SD, Heather Ann Kracht (Justin) of Lake Park, IA and Nicole Lynn Andrade (Toby) of Corpus Christi, TX; great grandchildren, Caleb David Kracht, Ashton Cole Kracht and Taylor Lynn Kracht; one sister, Maurine Penigar of DesMoines, IA and one sister-in-law, Verva Richard of Benttendorf, IA. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Boe David Moriston; brothers, Leverne, Dale, Leroy, and Merle.
