Duane Whitney

A memorial service for Duane Whitney, age 82, of Milford, will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 1:30 PM at First Lutheran Church in West Okoboji. Duane L. Whitney, the youngest of nine, was born July 1, 1935 in Sibley, Iowa to Lilly (Salzman) and Charles Wesley Whitney. He graduated from Excelsior High School in 1953 and attended Iowa State University for one year. On August 18, 1957, Duane was united in marriage to Janet Foss in Lake Park, Iowa. He farmed until 1973 and later sold life insurance and mutual funds until his retirement. Duane enjoyed his computer and spending time with his friends. Duane passed away November 28, 2017 at Accura Health of Spirit Lake at eighty-two years of age. He is survived by his wife, Janet Whitney of Milford; son, Brian Whitney and his wife, Cindy; two daughter, Dawn and her wife, Hali; daughter, Jennifer; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Jeremy) Georgeson and Brittany Whitney; one great-granddaughter, Genevieve; sister, June Burke; several nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by his son, Bob in 2010; parents, Lilly and Charles Whitney; two brothers, Charles Whitney and Daryl Whitney; five sisters, Hazel Eichman, Eileen Winkel, Margaret Knapp, Lucille Snethen and Lillian Gastor.
