Earl Frederick Von Holdt was born to Helmuth and Lillian Watje Von Holdt on April 30, 1932, at the home of his grandparents, Charles and Marie Watje, in Jackson County, Minnesota. He died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at a Minneapolis, Minnesota care facility.
He attended public school in a country school in Dickinson County, Iowa and Worthington High School. He graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1950.
He entered the U.S. Army in the fall of 1950 and was sent to Korea in May 1951. He was seriously wounded by action by missile on May 20, 1951 and was on disability from that date.
He has lived in the Twin Cities for many years and worked at manufacturing plants in the area. The last few years he has been in nursing homes in the Twin Cities area.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Fern. Survivors are a brother, Eldon (Phyllis) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, sister, Jo Ann (Ferd) Dirckx of Broomfield, Colorado, nephews and great nephew and great niece and by Keith Dawson, a former teacher, who has been his friend and advisor for many years.
Earl enjoyed all sports, especially football, and playing card games.
