Edna Skow

Edna Lucile Skow was born April 23, 1919 in Marathon, Iowa, the daughter of Axel and Bessie (Miller) Vederstrom. Edna passed away on August 9, 2008 at Wel-Life in Spirit Lake, Iowa at eighty-nine years of age. Edna is survived by her two sons, Robert Skow and Richard Skow; daughter, Tamara Skow; five grandchildren, Robert, Carlotta, Cody Hans, Coral, Cassandra, Cody Amos and Josh; five great grandchildren; four nieces and one nephew, many loving great nieces and great nephews.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Skow; sisters, Alice and Joe Knipp and Dorothy and Ivan Timmons. Edna grew up in Spirit Lake, graduating in 1937 from Spirit Lake High School. She was employed with the Coca Cola Bottling Co. and then Iowa light and Power Co. On October 21, 1961 she was married to Ernest Skow at the Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. She and Ernie spent many happy years on their farm where they raised their three children. Their special second family was their grandson, Robert M. whom they raised from the age of two. Edna had a lovely singing voice and provided music for many weddings, including her nieces' weddings. She also enjoyed making wedding cakes. One of her special joys was doll collecting and Ernie loved to surprise her with a new one on many occasions. Edna graciously gave many hours of volunteer time to civic organization including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Library and the local school. She was devoted to her church, offering her time and talents to the UMW, Sunday School and music. Edna was the recipient of the Iowa Governors Volunteer Award. Edna was a gracious lady, loved by many, gave unselfishly of herself to others and was a Christian example to all.
