A funeral service for Esther Haburn, age 89, of Spirit Lake, will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 30th after 3:00pm with the family present from 5:00-7:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lakes Regional Healthcare Auxiliary.
Esther Marie Brigham was born March 12, 1926, in rural Clay county to Henry and Minnie (Anderson) Brigham, the youngest of five children. She graduated from Graettinger High School in 1944.
On March 21, 1948, she was united in marriage to Miles Haburn. They farmed near Marble Lake and in 1956 their son, Lyle, was born. In 1962, they moved to a farm near Sioux Valley, Minnesota and lived there until 1973 when they returned to Spirit Lake. Esther began working as the secretary at the Dickinson County Assessor's office and a few years later for the county engineer where she remained until her retirement in 1993. She was a dedicated pink lady at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, serving as secretary for many years. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake.
Esther passed away December 28, 2015 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, at eighty-nine years of age as the result of a stroke.
Survivors include her son, Lyle (Sue) Haburn of Spirit Lake; granddaughter, Kim Chappas of Spirit Lake and twin great-grandsons, Isaac and Lukas Chappas; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles; her parents, siblings as well as several nephews.
