Funeral services for Evelyn Hemmingson, 100, of Lake Park, mother of Jeri Lowry, Roxanne Lammers and Denise Lev, will be held 2 pm, Saturday, January 21, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Visitation will begin at 4 pm, Friday, January 20, 2017, with the family present from 4 - 6 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park.
Evelyn Mabel Hemmingson, the daughter of Fred and Lena Ahrenstorff, was born July 5, 1916 in Sioux Valley, Minnesota. She graduated from the Sioux Valley High School and in 1936 moved to Lake Park, Iowa.
On December 8, 1939, Evelyn was united in marriage to Jerome Hemmingson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Evelyn worked as a laundress and a cook at the Lake Park School for several years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Park where she served as an elder, deacon and was involved in the Presbyterian Woman group. Evelyn was one of the original members and was very active in the Lake Park Historical Society since 1992. She also was involved in developing the Dinner Date program in Lake Park.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and playing games, especially BINGO, Sudoku and "500". Evelyn, at the age of ninety-five, was honored to be named "Queen for the Day" during the 2011 Lake Park Farmers Appreciation Days.
Evelyn passed away January 15, 2017 at the Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake at one hundred years of age.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeri Lowry of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Roxanne Lammers of Champlin, Minnesota and Denise Lev of Lake Park, Iowa; five grandchildren, Dawn (Kevin) Bice of Spirit Lake, Kevin (Amber) Roesner of Dayton, Minnesota; Shawna (Jeff) Hamm of Spirit Lake, Rob Lowry of Rochester, Minnesota and Angie Grant (fiance, Greg Whitmer) of Maple Grove, Minnesota; eight great-grandchildren, Amber Lippon, Tyler Bice, Jacob Grant, Emma Hamm, Rick Grant, Gracie Hamm, Kyle Grant and Haley Roesner; three great-great-grandchildren, Ava Lippon, Elle Lippon and Eden Lippon.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; her parents, Fred and Lena Ahrenstorff and eight brothers and sisters.
