There will be a Memorial Service for Evonne Swanson, 84, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and formerly of Spirit Lake on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Pioneer Care located at 1131 S. Mabelle Ave in Fergus Falls, Minneosta. There will also be a Memorial Service on Saturday, May 20th at 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Memorials may be directed to Spencer's Underground, PO Box 361, Spirit Lake, Iowa, 51360. Evonne Swanson was born January 17, 1933, in Tenney, Minnesota, the daughter of Lawrence and Alice (Watson) Holden. She was raised in Tenney, attending school and graduating from Campbell High School in nearby Campbell, Minnesota. Evonne was united in marriage to Charles Swanson on June 9, 1951, in Tenney, Minnesota. The couple lived in Granite Falls, Minnesota, Fairmount, North Dakota, Yankton, South Dakota, Marion, Iowa and LeMars, Iowa, before making their home in Spirit Lake in 1977. They have been residing in Fergus Falls, Minnesota since 2015. She worked as a secretary at Yankton Public Schools, Linn-Mar School and Westmar College. Evonnne and Chuck owned and operated the Shamrock Inn, in Spirit Lake, from 1977 until 1986. Evonne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. She was also a member of Gideons Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and time spent with her loved ones. Evonne passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, at eighty four years of age. Evonne is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Chuck Swanson, of Fergus Falls; children, David Swanson (Debbie), of Ackley, Iowa, Debra Schipper (Scott) of Shorewood, Minnesota, and Carla Weber (Bill), of Lake Park, Minnesota; grandchildren, Shayna Gulstrand, Cale Swanson, Mark Schipper, Katie Schipper, Elizabeth Schipper, Maurie Weber, and Carl Weber; great grandson, Oden Gulstrand; brother, Larry Holden; several nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Don Holden and sister, Betty Knapp.
