Frank Clark

Frank Clayton Clark passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at his home, CharMac Assisted Living, Lawton, at the age of ninety eight. Frank was born July 3, 1914, to Albert & Barbara Clark at Montgomery, Iowa. He attended school at Diamond Lake No. 1, Woodrow Wilson and Jefferson Jr. High in Long Beach, CA. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1932, and worked on the family farm until 1935. He operated a trucking business in Spirit Lake for six years, and entered the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served in World War II on the DE 17 Edward C. Daly until 1945. He married Opal Kubli, June 22, 1941, in Spirit Lake. She passed away March 16, 1995. He worked for Solar Aircraft in San Diego, Hughes Aircraft, Culver City, CA., Watland Implement Company, Lakefield, MN; Algona Implement Company, Algona, IA; Ellis & Capp Equipment Company, Greeley, CO; and Jaycox Implement, Lake Park, IA. He lived in Lake Park, IA, for many years before moving to Spirit Lake, and finally to CharMac Assisted Living, Lawton, IA. He was a member and Board Member of the United Methodist Church in Lake Park, the Spirit Lake VFW Post 4514, the Sioux Valley American Legion Post 614, Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #250 Lakefield, MN, and member of the Order of Eastern Star. He served on the Northwest Aging Council, Spencer; Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Authority Board; and the Big Sioux Alzheimers Chapter Board. Left to honor his memory are his son Glenn (Pam) Clark, Moville; and his daughter, Donna (John) Schmidt, Big Rapids, MI; five grandchildren: Christopher (Molly) Clark, Sioux Falls, SD; Sharalyn Clark (Dean Harris), Virginia Beach, VA; Charles (Marcy) Clark, Lawton, IA; Kara (Clif) Cooper, Bentonville, AR; and Paul (Nikole) Schmidt, Clovis, NM; and seven great grandchildren: Angelica Cortes-Clark, Michael Harris-Clark, Harrison Clark, and Alivia Clark, Henry and Miles Cooper, and Conner Schmidt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Pall bearers will be Delbert Clark, Larry Clark, Jeff Johnson, Paul Schmidt, Christopher Clark, and Charles Clark. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his sister Mabel Myers, and two brothers, Grant and Marion Clark, and his special friend, Leona Krieger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
