Garnette Anderson

Garnette Ann Anderson, 78, of Frisco, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2015. Memorial Services and a Celebration of Garnette's Life will be held on November 14, 2015 at 11:00 am in West Okoboji, Iowa at First Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Lutheran Church, Insight for Living or a charity of your choice in honor of Garnette Anderson. Garnette was born in Clarinda, Iowa, on August 8, 1937 to Robert Carlton and Mary Ellen Smith. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1955 and later that year, was married to Marvin E. Anderson, also of Pocahontas, Iowa on December 18. They lived in McCallsburg, Lake View, and Ringsted, Iowa before moving to the Okoboji Lakes Region in 1973. After her beloved Marvin's death, Garnette moved to Frisco, Texas where she lived at Frisco Lakes, a Del Webb community. Garnette worked various places throughout her life, but her favorite job was being a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, playing card games, music, golf, sewing and gardening. She was elected to City Council for Arnolds Park where she wrote and sponsored several grants for the Beautification of Iowa. Garnette and her family were members of First Lutheran Church for 30+ years, while living in the Lakes Area. Most recently, she was a member of Stonebriar Community Church, and was a part of the Celebration Choir and the Above and Beyond Class. Throughout her life, Garnette loved music and actively participated in the ministry of music with several choirs, as either a director or member. Garnette is survived by her three daughters, Kim Swanson, of Boone, Iowa, Barbara Powers, of Dallas, Texas and Heidi Anderson, of Houston, Texas; two sons-in-law, Matt Swanson and Alex Powers; six grandchildren, Natasha, Philip, Andrew and Ira Swanson, and Tim and Alyssa Powers; two brothers, Robert and Dale Smith, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Garnette is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marvin, and her parents, Robert and Mary.
