Glen Louis Joens, the son of Verna (Puhrman) and Hans Henry Joens, was born August 8, 1941 at his Grandparent Puhrman's home in Paullina, Iowa. Glen spent his childhood in the Lake Park Area.
On January 21, 1967, Glen was united in marriage to Nona Lyman Joens in Hartley, Iowa by Rev. Keith Scott. (Rev. Scott had also previously baptized and confirmed Glen). The couple made their home in Hartley for the first twenty years and dedicated his life providing for his family by driving semi truck. He also served as a Scoutmaster in Hartley for eight years.
In 2000, Glen and Nona moved to Lake Park where Glen built their retirement home with his own hands. After his retirement he enjoyed being able to drive truck for ARCO and helping his wife at her flower shop. Glen was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley and was a current member of the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake
Glen was a quiet person, not joining in conversations much, but when he left a group, he knew and remembered what everyone else had said. Glen's love was his children, grandchildren and in the last years, his great-grandchildren. Glen loved to work in his yard and his pride was his garden and trees. He was always ready at a drop of a hat to go on a road trip. He smiled with his eyes and enjoyed the smiles he received when delivering flowers to others.
Glen passed away November 5, 2014 at his home in Lake Park, Iowa at seventy-three years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Nona of Lake Park; son, Robert Joens; daughters, Amy Joens and Heidi Joens Palmer; son-in-law, Greg Palmer; grandchildren, Nicholas Joens, Emily Garloff and her spouse, Daniel, Kevin Difford, Victoria Joens Difford, Lexi Palmer and Angie Palmer; great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Brock, Sophia, Ty and Bentley (due in January, 2015); sister, Phyllis Davis;; mother-in-law, Pearl Lyman.
