A funeral service for Hans Tegtmeier, 84, of Spirit Lake, will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021, from 2-7pm with the family present from 5-7pm, at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.

Hans Wilbert Tegtmeier was born May 17, 1936, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Fred and Elsie (Wettingal) Tegtmeier. Hans was raised and educated in Denver, Iowa, graduating from Denver High School.

He was united in marriage to Frances “Fran” Morphew on June 9, 1968, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. The couple made their home in Spirit Lake, where they raised their sons, Hans Lee and Stacy Dean. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake.

Hans was an over the road truck driver and was honored by South Dakota Trucking Association for sixty years of dedicated service. He also received the 3 Million Mile Safe Driving Award from Midwest Coast Transportation. Hans and Fran were involved in foster care, caring for thirty-seven children over the years through the Iowa DHS and Lutheran Social Services.

Hans passed away February 27, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at eighty-four years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Fran Tegtmeier of Spirit Lake; sons, Hans Lee Tegtmeier of Spirit Lake and Stacy Dean Tegtmeier and his wife, Lara, of Spirit Lake; brother, Frederick Tegtmeier of Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Hans was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elsie Tegtmeier.
