Harold Eilers

A Mass of Christian Burial for Harold Eilers, age 87, of Milford, will be held Saturday, January 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Milford. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Harold Henry Eilers the son of Harry Herman Eilers and Roseann (Vonnahme) Eilers was born on September 3, 1931 in Laurens, Iowa. His early school years were in Laurens, St. Louis, Missouri and Milford, Iowa. Harold entered into the United States Army in 1950 serving as an engineer building bridges during the Korean war. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He received the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Commendation, National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Harold worked many jobs over the years, farming was the one he enjoyed the most, he also did lineman work in Montana, Spencer packing plant, he built houses and worked for the Dickinson County Road Crew. He could tackle almost any project and he was the go to guy for anyone who needed help, always saying yes. He was always there for his family, friends and neighbors. Harold was an avid sportsman. He loved fishing, hunting and hiking. He traveled to Alaska, Canada and Mexico in pursuit of this passion. He hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and enjoyed many trips with the Boy Scouts attending week long summer camps. Harold was a past commander of American Legion Post #384 and a 60 year member. He was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Harold passed away January 2, 2019 at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake at eighty-seven years of age. Harold is survived by his brother, Robert and Kathy Eilers; sister-in-law, Sue Eilers; seven nieces, five nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Welcoming him to heaven are his parents and grandparents; brothers, Harry J. Eilers and Herbert G. Eilers; sisters, Ella Mae Eilers, Mardell Eilers and Rosemary Miller; niece, Julieann Anderson. We will miss his teasing and the pinch he would give the nieces and nephews if he got the chance. We will treasure the stories of his many travels. We hope fire balls are in heaven for him.
