Harry Perkins

Harry Robert Perkins, the son of Robert and Gertrude (Yule) Perkins, was born February 17, 1933 in Superior, Iowa. Harry graduated from Superior High School and continued his education at Iowa State University before enlisting in the United States Army in 1953. He was honorably discharged in 1955. On October 17, 1957, Harry was united in marriage to Jo Ann (Jensen) Perkins. For thirty years, he was a salesman and partner with Jerry Hendrickson at Estherville Implement, the Case IH dealership. Harry was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus, past president of the Estherville Rotary Club, past president of the Spirit Lake Protective Association, director on the Superior Telephone Coop Board and a life member of the VFW in Estherville. Harry also served as the president of the IA/NE Implement Dealers Association, president of the Adobe Wells Homeowner Association in McAllen, Texas and served on the Estherville Golf and County Club Board. Harry was an avid golfer at Estherville Golf and Country Club and Adobe Wells Country Club. He enjoyed playing cards (bridge was his favorite) and fishing with friends, grandsons and his children in Spirit Lake and in Canada. His pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harry passed away February 23, 2013 at Mission Hospital in Texas at eighty years of age. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn, his son, Daniel (Diane) Perkins of Estherville; son, Benjamin (Dana) Perkins of Orofino, Idaho; daughter, Jacqueline Perkins of Lake Hills, Texas; daughter, Billie (Scott) Wille of Algona, Iowa; daughter, Becky (Douglas) Bradburn of New Ulm, Minnesota; daughter, Kimberly (Travis) Fenske of Blue Earth, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren on the way; brother, Ralph (Lorraine) Perkins; sisters, Ruth (Byron) Gunderson and Muriel (Sherman) Kumba; brother-in-law, Ralph McDonald; five foreign exchange students, Margie (Adams) Pretorius, Tonia Pamanes Fuller, Xochitl Gallardo, Adriano Nery Kiister and Mika Itavaara and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Reva Powell, Helen Campbell and Marjorie McDonald; one brother, Frank Perkins; two brothers-in-law, Bob Powell and Chuck Campbell; one daughter-in-law, Alta Perkins; one foreign exchange student, Wolfgang Sprissler. Memorial may be directed to the American Heart Association.
