Henrietta (Hendrika) Van Oort Green was born on September 16, 1916 in Sheldon, Iowa the daughter of Simon and Artie (Mol) Van Oort. She attended school in Matlock, Iowa until the age of ten when the family moved to Milford, Iowa, where she continued her education in the Milford Public School.
In 1941 she married Lowell Joseph Green of Milord and to this union was born two children, son, John William and daughter, Carol Elaine.
The newlyweds resided in Milford for two years. In 1943, they started farming northeast of Lake Park, Iowa, and later moved to a farm west of Milford where they continued farming until 1962. After leaving the farm, they resided in Lake Park for a short time before purchasing a home in Triboji Beach near Spirit Lake. In 1989, the couple moved to Terril.
Lowell passed away in 1998. Henrietta remained in Terril until moving to Milford in 2001 to be closer to family. She entered the Milford Nursing Center in 2006, where she remained until her death on Monday, November 17, 2008 at ninety-two years of age.
Henrietta was a member of the Excelsior Methodist Church and will be remembered for her many crocheted afghans, lap robes and potholders she completed and donated to the church for their yearly auctions.
